Briatore asks French court to overturn life ban

5:52 am on 25 November 2009

The former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore has asked a French court to overturn his life ban from Formula One, saying he's been denied the right to a free and fair defence.

The flamboyant Italian has also asked for two million dollars compensation from motorsport's governing body for moral prejudice.

Briatore was handed a life ban by the FIA in September for his role in a race-fixing scandal at last year's Singapore Grand Prix, and he's arguing that the FIA was not entitled to hand out indefinite sanctions, and that his ban was not imposed by an impartial judge.

The court's decision is expected early in the new year.
