Cowie very happy with umpire referral system

The ICC umpires manager Doug Cowie is very happy with the way the umpire decision review system was used on the opening day of the first cricket test between New Zealand and Pakistan in Dunedin.

It was used twice yesterday with a bowler wanting a not out call for an lbw appeal reversed... it wasn't, while batsman Brendan McCullum had a successful lbw appeal changed to not out.

The new system shows the third umpire if a batsman is out or not, or if their is enough doubt that the original decision should stand.

Cowie, a former New Zealand test umpire, says the system is quick and accurate and makes the third umpires job a lot easier....
