In the United States, a Florida mayor says the world number one golfer Tiger Woods has been released from hospital, where he was taken after a car crash.

The Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn says Woods suffered facial lacerations, but was not seriously hurt, contrary to earlier reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol earlier said that Woods' car struck a fire hydrant and a tree in Florida's Isleworth community, near Orlando.

The Highway Patrol said that alcohol was not a factor in the 33 year old golfer's crash.
