Muscat gets 3 match ban

5:44 am on 1 December 2009

The Wellington Phoenix are counting the cost from their 4-1 A-League football thrashing by Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Defender Manny Muscat has been hit with a three game ban following his straight red card after the Malta international caught Roar youngster Tommy Oar with an elbow in the 57th minute.

An independent match review panel recommended the ban - one match more than the minimum two-game ban for a red card - after reviewing the incident yesterday.

The Football Federation of Australia also charged the Phoenix with a team misconduct offence for showing dissent towards a match official during the Roar game.

Muscat has until 2pm today to accept the three-game ban or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA's disciplinary committee.

The Phoenix have been given until the close of business tomorrow to respond to the misconduct charge.
