The Waikato halfback Brendan Leonad hopes to make the most of his opportunity playing for the All Blacks this weekend after slipping down the pecking order for the number 9 jersey.

Leonard was a reserve for the Bledisloe Cup match in Tokyo, started a week later against Wales, but hasn't been involved since.

With Andy Ellis returning home and the coaches promising to give the backup players a start against the Barbarians this week, Leonard looks set to be given the number 9 jersey for the Twickenham clash.

He admits its been frustrating sitting in the stands in recents weeks, but knew that was probably going to be the case and so he just wants to make the most of the time he does get on the field.

When the team is named on Thursday night, Rodney So'oialo is likely to captain the side with the likes of Jason Eaton, Liam Messam, Tanerau Latimer, Mike Delany, Tamati Ellison and Ben Smith returning to the starting lineup.
