Wellington Phoenix accept Muscat's ban

6:07 pm on 1 December 2009

The Wellington Phoenix will not appeal the three game ban imposed on defender Manny Muscat following his red card in their 4-1 loss to Brisbane Roar in football's A-League on Sunday.

Muscat was sent off in the 57th minute for using his elbow to help impede a Brisbane attacker, reducing the Wellington side to ten men for the remainder of the game.

The Phoenix management reviewed the incident today and CEO Tony Pignata says if they'd appealed Muscat could have been out even longer.

Pignata says the club did not want to take that risk and have now moved on..

The Phoenix have also been charged with a team misconduct offence for showing dissent towards a match official during the Brisbane game - the club has until 7 oclock tomorrow night to appeal.
