Bewley helps Orica onto podium

The New Zealand cyclist Sam Bewley has helped his Australian Orica-GreenEdge team onto the podium in the first stage of the Vuelta a Espana.

Bewley's team finished third in the opening 12-kilometre team time trial, six seconds behind the Spanish Movistar team.

Jesse Sergent's US Trek team was fourth fastest, while Greg Henderson's Lotto team was 13th.

The second stage of the Tour of Spain is a 174-kilometre ride from Algeciras to San Fernando.

37-year-old Henderson won a stage on the Spanish tour in 2009.
