Irish official describes FIFA boss as an embarrassment

The Republic of Ireland's assistant manager Liam Brady has described FIFA's president as "a loose cannon and an embarrassment" for going public with Ireland's request to be the "33rd" team at next year's World Cup football finals in South Africa.

Brady said the Irish FA had expected FIFA to consider the request in private after Thierry Henry's handball helped France into next year's finals at Ireland's expense. They also knew the request was likely to be denied, after their bid to have the match replayed was thrown out.

Brady believes Ireland deserved greater recognition from FIFA and its president.
