The New Zealand women's basketball team have acquitted themselves well despite being trounced 63-44 by world number one the United States, in their latest match in a Four Nation tournament in China.

The New Zealand women's basketball team have acquitted themselves well despite being trounced 63-44 by world number one the United States, in their latest match in a Four Nation tournament in China.

A Tall Ferns side light on international experience and undersized trailed 30-19 at halftime but rocked the Americans with a strong third quarter cut the deficit to single figures heading into the final quarter.

Samara Gallaher was among the best performers for the Tall Ferns taking eight rebounds and scoring nine points.

The Tall Ferns, who are ranked 23rd in the world, will play a total of six games on tour, against a WNBA American selection side, as well as Slovenia and the host nation China who're ranked eighth in the world.
