Toss win helps Wellington but not Canterbury

Wellington's made the most of winning the toss in Queenstown to reach 256 for four at stum, on the first day of their Plunket Shield cricket match against Otago.

Josh Brodie's top-scored with 78 and the not out batsmen are Stewart Rhodes and Luke Woodcock on 64 and 34

Northern Districts were 82 without loss when badlight ended play on a rain-interrupted day in Auckland, where the hosts opted to bowl.

And Central Districts reached 288 for eight in Rangiora with Jamie How making 90 after Canterbury put them in.
