Black Caps take first day honours against Pakistan

5:57 am on 4 December 2009

The New Zealand cricketers have Pakistan on the back foot going into the second day of the second test at the Basin Reserve.

The home side took some time to capitalise on winning the toss yesterday, but at the end of a weather-shortened day, they'd reduced Pakistan for 161 for 6, with three wickets for skipper Daniel Vettori and two for Darryl Tuffey in his first test for five years.

Pakistan's top scorer has been 19 year old Umar Akmal, Pakistan's first test star, who made 46.

The weather forecast looks promising for a full days play today.
