Fouhy gets back into a kayak

The former world kayak champion Ben Fouhy will make his return to the sport at a national event in Rotorua this weekend.

Fouhy, who won a silver medal in the Athens Olympics in 2004, has had a year off after finishing out of the medals in Beijing and in that time he competed in the New Zealand and Hawaiian Ironmans.

He's only been back in full kayak training for a month, but Canoeing Racing New Zealand's high performance manager Wayne Maher there is plenty of excitement over his return.

Steven Ferguson has been the top K1 paddler this year and Maher is expecting plenty of competition once Fouhy gets back up to speed.

Maher feels Fouhy's year off will also have helped him with his desire.
