The Sydney Roosters and South Sydney didn't disappoint in their showdown as star halfback Mitchell Pearce steered the Roosters to a 22-18 NRL win in Sydney.

In the final round clash between the arch rivals, Pearce had a hand in all three of the premiers' tries and chased down a flying Greg Inglis to save a certain first half four-pointer for the Rabbitohs, and the Roosters went out to a 22-2 lead after 51 minutes.

But Souths fought back to run in three tries in 10 minutes late in the second half to set up a grandstand finish.

The victory takes the Roosters to the top of the NRL ladder, and they've now claimed the minor premiership for the second successive year after Manly lost to North Queensland in Townsville.
