Everton save dramatic draw at home against Spurs

Tim Cahill celebrated his 30th birthday in style by capping a great escape with a late equaliser as Everton captain in a 2-all Premier League football draw with Tottenham.

Cahill's headed goal in the 86th minute earned the home side a valuable point as the club, which has a string of injured players, battles to stay above the relegation zone.

But the Socceroos ace's joy was tinged by the knowledge that a booking minutes earlier will see him suspended for Everton's clash with league leaders Chelsea next week.

The drama continued in injury time when Jermain Defoe had a chance to clinch a win for Spurs after Wilson Palacios was fouled, but he was denied by goalkeeper Tim Howard who saved the striker's spot kick.

A win for Tottenham would have seen them take third place in the Premiership table.

However they instead had to settle for fourth behind Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal while Everton moved up into 15th place.

Earlier Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer's Fulham moved into eighth place after Bobby Zamora's early strike clinched a 1-nil win over Sunderland at Craven Cottage.
