Amateur golfer Cathryn Bristow has finished tied for 22nd in an LPGA qualifying tournament to become just the third New Zealander to gain a place on the tour.

Bristow missed out on the top 20 by one shot, which will mean she will still need to qualify for the bigger tournaments on the circuit next year.

The 25-year-old says she was disappointed to miss out on full playing rights for 2010, but is excited to make it to the LPGA circuit with the top international players.

Bristow says she would like to make her professional debut at the 2010 Women's New Zealand Open near Christchurch in February.
