A mixed doubles tennis competition and new track cycling disciplines for men and women have been added to the London Olympics programme for 2012, aimed partly at increasing the number of female athletes at the Games.

The mixed doubles will involve 16 teams without increasing the overall number of competitors in the tennis competition.

The new cycling programme involves five events, including the new mutli-discipline omnium, but the exclusion of the popular individual pursuit for men and women has angered some cyclists and fans.

The IOC say they took advice from the International Cycling Federation, which is adamant the new programme is an improvement for the sport.
