No honour for Tiger

7:32 am on 11 December 2009

A Californian lawmaker has shelved plans to award Tiger Woods a Congressional medal because of the string of alleged extra-marital affairs confronting the world golf number one.

Woods was being promoted for one of the highest civilian honours available in the United States for "service to the nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship, and in breaking barriers with grace and dignity by showing that golf is a sport for all people".

In a further blow for Woods, commercials featuring him have completely disappeared from US television sceens.
