7:00 pm on 13 December 2009

Waitakere United moved to the top of the New Zealand Football Championship (NZFC) on Sunday after a 2-1 win over Team Wellington as both teams finished with ten players in a fractious encounter at Whenuapai.

The win was enough to guide Waitakere to the top of the table on 12 points with previous leaders Auckland City two points back and absent on FIFA Club World Cup duty in Abu Dhabi.

Rivals YoungHeart Manawatu are now third on goal difference only after a 1-0 win over regional rivals Hawke's Bay United.

In Ngaruawahia, a last minute Stu Kelly goal gave Otago United a 1-0 victory over Waikato FC.
