Tiger Woods' PGA Tour rivals have backed his decision to take a break from golf although they are concerned about the possible economic impact on the sport of his "indeterminate" absence and hope for a swift return.

Britain's Graeme McDowell told the Golf Channel that while tournaments are going to be easier without Woods around, he gives events a a big boost and the game needs him.

Woods said on Saturday he was taking an indefinite break from the game, having admitted to infidelity in his marriage.

Twice PGA Championship winner Nick Price of Zimbabwe says Woods is making a wise move and the 14-time major winner might come back even stronger and ready to win the extra five majors needed to beat Jack Nicklaus' record.

However the American Boo Weekley says while Woods is a big asset to the tour, he isn't bigger than the game.
