Jenson Button named BBC sports person of the year

The veteran Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has been named BBC sports personality of the year.

He headed off Formula One motor racing world champion Jenson Button for the top honour.

The England cricket team, which retained the Ashes, was named team of the year and the England football manager Fabio Cappelo was named coach of the year.

The overseas sports personality award went to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and the lifetime award went to Spanish golfing great Seve Ballesteros.
