Sydney Roosters player arrested

6:55 pm on 14 December 2009

The Sydney Roosters rugby league club has come under the spotlight yet again after their 19-year-old hooker Jake Friend was arrested following an altercation with a taxi driver on Sunday morning.

Friend fell asleep in a taxi after a night out and the driver had to ask for police assistance when he could not wake the intoxicated league player.

When he was finally woken and removed from the vehicle, the police say Friend became abusive and refused to pay the driver.

Friend was arrested for the second time this year and charged with using offensive language towards police and failing to pay his taxi fare.

His first arrest came in March after he was caught drink-driving in Sydney, for which he was also stood down by the Roosters.

This latest incident caps off a horror-season for the NRL club, which has been plagued with alcohol-related problems from the Roosters players and coach.
