India win thrilling one dayer in Rajkot

6:55 am on 16 December 2009

The Indian cricketers ran up a massive 414-7 one day total in Rajkot overnight, but the result in their opening game of their 5-match series against Sri Lanka was in the balance until the last ball.

A magnificent 146 from Virender Sehwag helped India post their highest one-day score, but Sri Lanka's opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed a career-best 160 off 124 balls to lead a sensational fightback.

The visitors fell agonisingly short on 411 for eight, needing 11 runs off the final over and six from the last two balls.

It was only the second time both teams have scored more than 400 runs in a one-day international.
