The Golf Writers Association of America has voted Tiger Woods male player of the year by an overwhelming margin over Steve Stricker, with just over half the ballots returned after he became embroiled in a sex scandal.

It's the 10th time Woods has won the award in his 13 years as a pro and he received 168 votes, compared with 20 for Stricker and 13 for the US PGA champion YE Yang.

Voting began three days before news of the car crash outside Woods' Florida home, the first sign of trouble that led the world's No.1 player to eventually admit to infidelity.
