Erakovic through, King-Turner out at NZ Residentials

Top seed Marina Erakovic is through to the semi-finals of the New Zealand tennis Residentials at Albany in Auckland.

Erakovic beat youngster Leela Beattie of Canterbury 6-1 6-1 and now faces fellow Aucklander Abbey Guthrie tomorrow.

Number two seed Ellen Barry of Canterbury faced a tougher match against local Shona Lee but prevailed 6-4 4-6 6-1 to meet another Aucklander, Kairangi Vano, in the semi-finals.

New Zealand men's number one Dan King-Turner was shocked in straight sets by Austin Childs, 6-2 6-3.

Childs, who's back for a break from US College, now faces Adam Thompson in the semi-finals, while Jose 'Rubin' Statham's made a successful return from Melbourne in his first step towards a title defence, winning 6-4 6-0 against Canterbury's Logan Mackenzie.

Statham now faces Marcus Daniel in the other semi-final.
