All Whites to play Mexico in World Cup warmup

The All Whites will play Mexico in Los Angeles on March 3rd in the first of up to six warm up matches for the football World Cup South Africa.

Coach Ricki Herbert been chasing South or Central American opposition to help prepare for New Zealand's final group match against Paraguay on June 25 and sees the opposition and location as ideal.

New Zealand's played Mexico only once, winning 4-0 in Auckland in 1980 in Herbert's first match for the All Whites.

But Mexico's now ranked 17th in the world, 63 places above New Zealand, and has qualified for the World Cup 14 times, behind only Brazil, Germany, Italy and Argentina.

They'l l play the tournament's opening game against South Africa, in Group A with Uruguay and France, while All Whites are in Group F with Slovakia, Paraguay and Italy.
