Roger Federer and Serena Williams have been named the International Tennis Federation World Champions after capturing four grand slam singles titles between them this year.
It's the fifth time Switzerland's world number one Federer has won the award, based on performances at grand slams, Tour events, and the Davis and Fed Cups.
Williams took the award for the second time, despite her foul-mouthed outburst at a line judge at this year's US Open.
She was fined $175,000 and the Grand Slam Committee put her on probation for two years following the tirade during her semi-final loss to Kim Clijsters.
Federer has no such shadow hanging over a season which saw him win his first Frencn Open, take the all-time Grand Slam record to 15 and regain the No. 1 ranking.
Serena and sister Venus were named women's doubles World Champions for the first time with the Auckland-bound Americans Bob and Mike Bryan taking the men's doubles honour for a record sixth time.
