Auckland four clear in one day cricket competition

Auckland has opened a four-point lead in the one day cricket provincial championship after an 81-run win over Wellington.

Auckland has 13 points after three wins in a row, four clear of Canterbury with Central Districts third on eight points, after beating Northern Districts by three wickets in Palmerston North.

Set 231 to win, Wellington was dismissed for 149 with Darryl Tuffey taking three wickets.

Central needed 301 to win and got there with three wickets and 15 balls in hand after the England international Graham Napier clubbed an unbeaten 73 off 29 balls, including five sixes.

Napier came in with the score at 219 for seven.

Northern also has eight points but trails Central on net run rate, while Otago and Wellingtion have four.
