Black Sticks women draw with Australia

The New Zealand women's hockey team has drawn 3-all with Australia in the third and final test in Wellington.

The Black Sticks Women let a 3-2 lead slip in the last 30 seconds of the game.

Stacey Michelsen scored in the third minute, before Olivia Merry made it 2-nil early in the second half.

Australia fought back to level the game, before Michelsen got her second and what appeared to be the winner.

Australia took the series 1-nil.

Meanwhile the New Zealand men drew 1-all with Japan in the early game in Wellington.

Six New Zealanders made their debut, with one of them, Richard Bain scoring the opener in the 51st minute, however Japan grabbed the equaliser a minute later.

The Black Sticks Women now start packing their bags ahead of the FIH Champions Trophy in Argentina at the end of the month.

The Black Sticks Men play Japan in their second test in Wellington tonight.
