Latu has been a member of the Silver Ferns since 2011 and was groomed as Irene van Dyke's replacement but hasn't always coped well against Australian defenders.

Australian born shooter Amelianne Wells has also missed out but Maria Tutaia returns to the side having recovered from injury and Ellen Halpenny has been given another opportunity.

Veteran midcourter Liana Leota has also been left out but that's made way for the return of Shannon Francois and Camilla Lees.

Joline Henry was not considered due to injury.

Young defender Phoenix Karaka has also been picked ahead of Temalisi Fakahokotau.

Laura Langman will captain the team while Casey Kopua continues her rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

The Ferns play two tests against Fiji, and one against Samoa next week.

The Silver Ferns:

Shooters: Jodi Brown, Maria Tutaia, Ellen Halpenny, Bailey Mes

Midcourt: Shannon Francois, Camilla Lees, Grace Rasmussen, Laura Langman

Defence: Leana de Bruin, Phoenix Karaka, Kayla Cullen, Katrina Grant
