The Blues Super Rugby franchise has confirmed that George Moala will return to training with the team despite being found guilty last week of assault with intent to injure.

An Auckland jury found him guilty of assault with intent to injure in relation to a bar fight that left a man concussed and bleeding from the head, but cleared him of an assault charge.

In a statement, the Blues say they will wait to conduct any internal misconduct process until after 1 May, when Moala is due to be sentenced.

The organisation says given the range of potential outcomes that could result from sentencing, it is not appropriate to conclude any internal investigation until then.

The Blues and New Zealand Rugby will await the final outcome of sentencing before resolving what further action, if any, may be appropriate.

Moala's bail conditions allow him to fulfil all obligations as a professional rugby player, including travel, and he remains available for selection.

The franchise says the decision to allow Moala to return to work follows consultation with New Zealand Rugby, the Players' Association, key stakeholders and Moala's legal team.
