The errant former Kiwis league international Russell Packer has moved a step closer to returning to the sport after meeting with NRL officials.
The 25-year-old former Warrior was released from prison in January after serving a one-year term for assault and he has been involved in community engagement work with St George Illawarra.
But the NRL is unlikely to allow Packer to return to the game for several months.
NRL officials travelled to Wollongong earlier this week to meet with Packer and representatives from St George Illawarra.
The meeting was an opportunity for the club to notify the league about Packer's activities.
