Southee's Rajasthan crush McCullum's Chennai

Tim Southee's Rajasthan Royals have inflicted the first defeat of the Indian Premier League cricket season on his New Zealand teammate, Brendon McCullum's Chennai team.

Rajasthan successfully chased down the victory target of 157 with 10 balls remaining to seal an 8 wicket win in Ahmedabad.

The Rajasthan openers India's Ajinkya Rahane and Australia's Shane Watson scored 149 runs between them as the hosts eased to victory.

The New Zealand skipper McCullum scored just 12 runs for Chennai, with West Indian Dwayne Bravo top scoring for the visitors with 62.

Paceman Southee, a regular starter, was rested from the Rajasthan playing 11 for the match.

Rajasthan top the standings with five wins from five games, while Chennai are second with three wins from four games.

Meanwhile the Black Caps all-rounder Corey Anderson was rested from Mumbai's 18 run away win over the Dan Vettori coached Bangalore, the Indian's maiden win in this year's competition.

The Black Caps fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan did take the field for Mumbai, and took 1 wicket for 43 runs from his four overs in the visitors' victory.

The win lifts Mumbai to second to last on the eight team table, just above Bangalore on net run rate.
