Cull begins at the Phoenix

The cull has started at the Wellington Phoenix in the wake of their disappointing A-League playoff performance, losing 2-0 to Melbourne City.

The Costa Rican winger Kenny Cunningham appears to have parted ways with the Wellington Phoenix after bidding farewell to the A-League football club's supporters on social media.

The 29-year-old has completed a two-year contract with the Wellingtonians following their exit from the A-League finals and a post on Twitter indicates he has parted ways with the Phoenix management.

He Tweeted: "Thanks for all the fan support wellington phoenix (sic) was a year and a half passion friends good bye and thanks."

Cunningham will leave the Phoenix with 11 goals to sit eighth on the club's all-time scorers list.

He started 21 of 23 games in his first season but was used as an impact player this season by coach Ernie Merrick, starting in just one of his 16 appearances.

Cunningham scored a late double off the bench against Central Coast Mariners last month to secure a 3-2 home win.

It was to be the Phoenix only win in their last six games as they bowed out of the A-League title race in disappointing fashion.
