McBride breaks world record

New Zealand lightweight single sculler Zoe McBride has set a new world record at the World Cup regatta in Italy.

McBride beat the previous record which had stood for 21 years by almost four seconds to reach the finals along with nine other New Zealand crews.

Her time of 7:24.46 seconds broke the former record of 7:28.15 set by Romanian Constanta Burcica in 1994 in France.

The New Zealand crews qualifying for A finals include the women's pair, women's lightweight double scull, women's quad, men's lightweight four, women's double, men's single scull, women's eight, men's eight and Zoe McBride and Jackie Kiddle in the women's lightweight single.
