Ko, the 18-year-old world No.2, is a finalist in the Best International Athlete category alongside world tennis number one Novak Djokovic, world Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and football stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo won the award last year, while Usain Bolt has won it previously.

She is also a finalist in the Best Female Golfer category with American Stacey Lewis and South Korean Inbee Park.

Ko became the youngest ever world number one earlier this year, but recently lost that spot to Park.

The ESPY Awards are dominated by American sports and athletes.

Up for the Best Male Athlete are NBA basketballers Stephen Curry and LeBron James and NFL players Aaron Rodgers and JJ Watt.

The Best Female Athlete finalists are MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, basketball player Breanna Stewart, skier Lindsey Vonn and tennis number one Serena Williams.

The winners will be announced next month.
