Fox took part in a two-day, pre-Open qualifier at the Gailes Links Golf Course in Scotland.

Only the top three in the 72-man field qualified for the event and Fox finished in a tie for second after shooting rounds of 69 and 71.

It's the first major championship Fox has qualified for and he is the only New Zealander in the field so far.

Tim Wilkinson, Danny Lee and Steve Alker could still qualify for the Open, if they finish inside the top four at The Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour.

The Open Championship gets underway from July 16.
