It's Carter's last chance to play for the All Blacks in Australia, although coach Steve Hansen is yet to name who will play for New Zealand.

With the All Blacks and the Wallabies sharing top spot on the Rugby Championship table, Saturday's match will also decide the competition's winner.

Carter was part of the 2003 All Blacks side that reclaimed the Bledisloe Cup, after Australia held it for five consecutive years.

Since then, the All Blacks haven't lost the Cup - but Carter said it would be great to get the chance to retain the trophy in his final year as an All Black.

"Pretty lucky through my career, I've had a lot of successes with the Bledisloe and... it's a cup that means a lot to this team and one we want to retain, which isn't going to be easy."

The All Blacks team to take on Australia will be named on Thursday.
