New Zealand cyclist Sam Bewley has fallen 23 seconds short of a bronze medal at the world road championships in Virginia.
Bewley's Australian team Orica-Greenedge was fourth in the men's professional time trial, 53 seconds behind the American winners BMC Racing over the 38-kilometre course.
Greg Henderson was the next best-placed New Zealander as his Lotto-Soudal team finished seventh.
BMC Racing retained their title by 11 seconds from Belgian team Etixx-Quick Step.
Spanish outfit Movistar took the bronze.
The women's team time trial event was won by the Velocio-SRAM team.
