The expected scrapping of the tour looms as a massive boost for the domestic one-day competition with Australia's Test players poised to participate.

Test captain Steve Smith and fellow squad members Josh Hazlewood and Stephen O'Keefe trained with New South Wales on Wednesday.

The tour is expected to be abandoned in wake of the threats, which prompted the United States and United Kingdom to follow Australia's lead by upgrading travel warnings for Bangladesh.

Cricket Australia security staff will brief the federal government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade today, after returning from meeting with Bangladeshi officials in Dhaka.

An announcement on the tour's future is expected on Thursday.
