The Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood says he fears for the safety of his fielders ahead of the historic day-night cricket Test against New Zealand in Adelaide.

Hazlewood says while significant improvements have been made since the pink ball was first trialled in 2013, it will still be difficult to see the ball in the field during twilight.

He says having to field square of the wicket to someone like Brendon McCullum when the sun is setting will be difficult.

Today the Black Caps have a day-night match using the pink ball against the Australian Prime Minister's Eleven in Canberra.

The Black Caps day-night Test against Australia which is the third match of the series, starts on November 27th.

The New Zealand coach Mike Hesson says a couple of spots in the test team are still up for grabs and the warmup matches in Australia will be key for a few of the players.

Hesson says the battle between Matt Henry and Doug Bracewell for the third seamers spot is an interesting one and one where a final decision is yet to be reached.

The first Test in Brisbane starts on November 5th.
