After finishing third in Saturday's feature race in Abu Dhabi, Evans was denied a shot at third place in the GP2 Series standings when Sunday's sprint race was cancelled after a first lap accident damaged the barriers.

With a third place finish and a victory from the previous race in Bahrain a week ago, Evans was pumped up for the season finale at the Yas Marina circuit, where he was still in with a chance of grabbing a third place finish in the 2015 GP2 Championship.

"We had a lot of ups and downs this season with a lot of lows early in the year. The car performance and reliability wasn't great and I've gone through some testing times," said Evans.

"Fortunately we were able to turn things around ... and the last four rounds were good and showed what we are capable of. After having such a good run not being able to fight for a good result today puts a bit of a damper on the end of the season."

Mitch finished the 2015 GP2 season in fifth place with 135 points.
