Boult down on speed and confidence

Black Caps pace bowler Trent Boult is down on speed because he's down on confidence, says bowling coach Dimitri Mascarenhas.

Boult wasn't in top form in the three Tests against Australia or the win over Sri Lanka in Dunedin this week.

He had a back injury in the lead-up to third Test against Australia in Adelaide but Mascarenhas says he's not bothered by that going into the second test against Sri Lanka in Hamilton on Friday.

"No I don't think so. I think sometimes it's just a little bit of confidence," Mascarenhas said. "Confidence in his body to get going and really feel as though he can push those speeds up."

"We've seen at times he has pushed it up to the high 130's (kph), but other than that he seem to be going really nicely and the ball is coming out nice and he's getting it in the right areas."

The biggest question for coach Mike Hesson and skipper Brendon McCullum was whether to tinker with the playing XI.

"The team we picked for the Dunedin test worked really well and it was a good mix... but from my point of view you pick the best team for the conditions," said Mascarenhas.
