NZ under 17 women footballers top group

The New Zealand under-17 women's football team will play Fiji in the semi-finals of the Oceania Championship in Rarotonga.

The New Zealand U-17 women's team kicked off the tournament with an easy 11 nil win over Samoa.

The New Zealanders beat Tonga 13-nil today to finish unbeaten at the top of their group.

Samantha Tawharu and Maggie Jenkins led the way with four goals each while Hannah Blake struck a hat-trick.

Papua New Guinea and Fiji drew their game in the other group to finish first and second.

PNG will play New Caledonia in the other semi-final.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan later this year.
