New Zealand motor racing identity and former Gore mayor Ian 'Inky' Tulloch remains in a critical condition in Southland Hospital following a crash during a club event at Teretonga Park in Invercargill on Sunday.

Tulloch, 65, was injured when the car he was in hit a tyre wall during a race.

He was competing in the Clubmans Saloon races, driving a Honda Integra.

Last weekend at Hampton Downs, he teamed up with Nelson's John McIntyre to win another New Zealand championship title, with the pair winning the three-hour New Zealand Endurance title.

MotorSport New Zealand chief executive Brian Budd said an investigation into the crash would be carried out.

"We are all thinking of Inky and his family at this time," Budd said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
