Fiji deservedly win Wellington Sevens

Updated at 6:18 am on 7 February 2010

Fiji have won the 2010 IRB Wellington Sevens rugby title, winning a cliffhanger of a final by 19 points to 14 over Samoa, who eliminated New Zealand in the semi-finals.

It was a deserved win for Fiji, who were the outstanding side in the tournament, ending England's title defence in the semi-finals and then going on to clinch a first Wellington crown since 2006.

In doing so, they cut New Zealand's lead in the World Series to just four points ahead of next weekend's event in Las Vegas.

Samoa move up to third in the table, England lie in fourth and Australia's second successive Plate victory moves them up to fifth.
