The class of the world golf number one, Lydia Ko, was on display in California on Saturday as the New Zealander remained one shot off the pace.

Ko was one back and tied for 5th after the opening round at Carlsbad, the latest stop on the LPGA tour.

But after Friday's four under par 68, the 18-year went one better on Saturday with a second round 67, to tie America's Brittany Lang for second place at nine under for the tournament.

Ahead of Ko is the Korean, Jenny Shin, who climbed from a tie for 8th to the top of the leaderboard with her second round 65.

Shin struck seven birdies on day two and Ko five, while the overnight co-leader and world number two, Park Inbee, was pushed back into a tie for fourth at eight under par following her second round 69.
