Vatuvei placed on medical leave

The suspended Warriors and Kiwis winger Manu Vatuvei has been put on medical leave by the National Rugby League club.

In a statement Warriors managing director Jim Doyle says following medical advice Vatuvei has been placed on leave and the club is continuing to focus on the welfare of the other five players who were disciplined in the wake of the loss to Melbourne last week.

Six players, including Vatuvei, were reportedly involved in a night out the day after the club's biggest loss of the season where they mixed prescription drugs with energy drinks and then failed to turn up for a team meeting the next day.

All six were suspended from the Warriors next game against St George Illawarra and Vatuvei, Ben Matulino and Bodene Thompson were barred from being picked for Friday night's test against the Kangaroos in Newcastle.

Doyle says the club is also continuing to have meetings with the players involved but is refusing to release any further details.

There is no indication as to how long Vatuvei will be on leave.
