Vettori touted as next coach of India

The former New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori is being touted as the next coach for India.

In the Times of India newspaper is reporting Vettori who coaches Indian Premier League Twenty20 franchise the Royal Challengers Bangalore is being suggested as coach by Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

The newspaper says while Vettori's name has indeed been suggested by Kohli there's been no confirmation from the Indian cricket's governing body the BCCI it's seriously considering Vettori for the role.

With India scheduled to play 18 Test matches between over the next year the appointment of a national coach is a top priority.

Vettori announced his retirement from international cricket in March last year after New Zealand finished runners-up at the World Cup in Melbourne.

India has previously been coached by a New Zealander.

Former New Zealand batsman John Wright coached the side between 2000-2005.
