The Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph is playing down the impact the result of tonight's Super rugby match between last year's two finalists will have on the makeup of this year's playoffs.

The reigning champions the Highlanders play the Hurricanes in Wellington tonight.

The Highlanders currently sit third in the New Zealnad Conference and sixth overall while the Hurricanes, are fourth and seventh respectively.

Both teams would currently qualify for the playoffs but Joseph says with three games to play after tonight's match anything can happen.

"I'm not sure it's make or break. It's round 14 but there's still three weeks to go for every team in the competition not just for us."

The Highlanders travel to South Africa to play the Lions in Johannesburg next round and then head to Argentina to play the Jaguares.

"Then we come home and play the Chiefs which is probably not the best team to play when you travel home from Argentina," said Joseph.
