Gubb was slapped with the grade 2 shoulder charge on Manly forward Darcy Lussick during the Warriors golden point loss at nib Stadium in Perth on Saturday.

The base charge for the offence is 350 points, but two similar offences in the last two years means Gubb is facing a maximum seven match ban.

Gubb would miss five matches with an early guilty plea, but could risk seven matches if he fights the charge at the NRL judiciary and loses.

Panthers end Eels hopes, Storm win

Penrith mounted a gutsy second half comeback to kill off Parramatta's disastrous National Rugby League season with a 22-18 win in Sydney.

Down 18-6 at the break, the Panthers piled on three unanswered tries in the second stanza to keep themselves in the hunt for the top eight after back-to-back losses.

After fighting through adversity and a whirlwind of controversy all year, the Eels' finals hopes received their coup de grace at the hands of the Panthers.

Meanwhile Premiership contenders Melbourne made hard work of moving to the top of the NRL ladder, hanging on in the final minutes to claim a 20-16 win over lowly Newcastle at Hunter Stadium.
